Baxter’s vet visit

19.03.2009 at 23:23 by Michelle

Baxter

We are back from the visit to the vet.  An additional set of bloods were taken.  The infection looks as though it is under control.  One Liver enzyme has returned to normal & the other is still high however not as high as a week ago.  We have an additional week of tablets & go back for tests in a weeks’ time.

The conjunctivitis is getting better & the colitis looks as though it has gone.

Hopefully he will be better next week.

PS.  Finley is very healthy & has turned his attentions to chewing the turtle mats into little pieces.

Baxter Update

14.03.2009 at 20:20 by Michelle

Sorry for not posting an update in ages.  We have been really busy.

Firstly Finley is now a British citizen, as are Baxter & I and has been issued a GB passport by DEFRA.  In October 2009 we will be able to travel back to the UK without 6 months quarantine.

The washing machine has been fixed twice after Finley the belligerent destroyer attacked it.  It is his nemesis.  We are looking to find a builder who understands metal framed houses so that we can enlarge the kitchen & move the utility room to a different area of the house where the washing machine will be safe.

Baxter has been training for his silver KCGC and Finley for his bronze KCGC.  Unfortunately Finley understands the concept of sit & stay.  Baxter philosophy is never to be alone hence finds this a tricky move.

The fences have been replaced & “touch wood” has not been destroyed.  We just need to paint it and replant the garden.  The 80 year old on one side of my house & the 73 year old on the other side of my house are really pleased.  No more ad hoc four legged visitors.

We are re-upholstering a settee & chair from the late 1960’s.  A bit of a scary challenge.  We Will let you know how we get on.

Lastly Baxter has picked up an infection which has gone onto his liver causing hepatitis.  As a result his colitis has re-emerged & he has also managed to get conjunctivitis & a spotty nose.  So he now has antibiotics, metronidazole, eye drops and an antibacterial scrub for his nose.

However we are all well & enjoying life.

The weather is also getting slightly better.

Holiday

I will be on holidays after this Friday and going to the Alps in Italy for 2 weeks. It is snowing there at the moment but according to the weather forecast it will be sunshine after my arrival.

My boys will go to the a boarding kennel during my holiday. I wish I could have taken them with me but the journey would have been quite difficult with two boys. Next year I might travel by car so taking the boys would be so much easier.

I’m looking for a wireless fence for my plot. I found one in US but I don’t think it works in Finland and also it needs to be CE-marked. Please let me know if you know more about them with reasonable prizes (max. 200£ / 240€). Some people do not like this wireless / electric fence in Finland but I think it is much better than being hit by a car or something else. And it does give warning signals before the shock.  I have had shocks from the horse fence and it is not too bad. We do have these fences in Finland but it would cost me about 1.000 euros and I know outside Finland they are much cheaper (like to one in the US where I linked, it would be 160€).

Hopefully Michelle will write here during my holidays :)
